Volunteer Columbia Valley is the result of a collaboration between the Columbia Valley Community Foundation and Eggplant Studios. We wanted to create a platform for local organizations who are struggling to find Volunteers in the Columbia Valley. The result is VolunteerCV.ca - an online matching platform that connects volunteers and organizations with a special 'dating site' style algorithm. Organizations and Volunteers can log into the site, manage their profiles, and connect with each other via volunteer postings and applications.
Organizations in the Columbia Valley are having a hard time finding volunteers to help keep things moving and shaking in the Valley. To combat this, we wanted to create a definitive one-stop platform that's easy to user for both Volunteers and Organizations.
Built on Laravel, Eggplant Studios created a custom, ground up application that shares some similarities with platforms like LinkedIn and Plenty of Fish. We approached the problem of connecting Organizations and Volunteers through Volunteer Postings, which Volunteers can search through apply for. The real magic comes from a matching algorithm which takes into account the skills and experience of a Volunteer and compares it to the requirements of the Volunteer Posting, resulting in a Percentage match. This allows Volunteers to see at a glance if they're a good match for a certain Organizations needs.
