The Nelson Daily is part of a larger group of five online newspapers: The Nelson Daily, Trail Champion, Rossland Telegraph, Castlegar Source, and the Boundary Sentinel.
The Nelson Daily embarked on a project to migrate their website from an older version of Drupal multisite to standalone WordPress websites, one for each property. This migration required preserving all existing articles, images, and Google Ad placements, ensuring they were correctly allocated to the respective new websites. Additionally, interconnectivity was required between each property to enable article synchronization across all sites.
Eggplant Studios opted for WordPress to tackle this project. To complete the migration, a custom migration script was developed to transfer the Drupal content and images into WordPress, ensuring proper allocation to the respective websites. Additionally, an in-house syndication plugin was created to facilitate quick and easy connectivity between the five sites, with provisions for future expansion to more properties.
